9 Inch Diameter Terrestrial Globe by Newton and Sons Chancery Lane London 1846.
The globe was made by Newton & Son, 66 Chancery Lane, London, England between 1846 and 1847.
The Newton family of cartographers were among the leading English glove makers of the early 19th Century. The firm was started in 1780 and continued under varying names until the early twentieth century. The globe is dated by the presence of Van Diemen's Land, which would be called Tasmania after 1846 and the presence of British North America which became the Dominion of Canada in 1867.
This beautiful table globe is in good original condition. The papers themselves and the colour show a very high state of preservation.
